Diana Mager - How does meal pattern influence post-prandial lipid metabolism in
obese children

Diana Mager has a PhD in nutrition and liver disease from the University of Toronto, and did post doctoral training specifically focused in obese children and adolescents with chronic liver disease (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). She is also a registered dietitian who specializes in pediatrics and children with chronic gastrointestinal failure and liver disease.
The current grant supports a project looking at how meal pattering (low polyunsaturated fatty acid intake/high saturated fat/high simple sugar intake) influences how the body handles carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and how this may contribute to the development of insulin resistance in overweight and obese children. Insulin resistance a key issue in terms of developing type 2 diabetes in obesity. Understanding how what children eat influences their susceptibility to diabetes is very important, particularly in obesity and the current pilot project is looking at this.
