Keep On Rockn' August

The Alberta Diabetes Foundation (ADF) is thrilled to once again be associated with Rock’n August.

This fantastic community-minded group of individuals and corporations have donated over $78,000 for diabetes research and education in 2010 and are hoping to make 2011 a greater success with a goal of $100,000.

Swimmers go to Great Lengths for Diabetes Research

On May 14, Edmonton's Olympian Swim Club hit the water to support diabetes research. Over 140 swimmers, ages 10-17, each swam 200 lengths of the pool (5 km) in under two hours.

The marathon swimmers raised a total of over $16,000, or more than $8,000 per hour. Read More...












The $50,000 Haircut

On June 23, 2011 at 5.00pm, friends, colleagues, family, and guests gathered at Crush Restaurant & Bar in Calgary to watch as Tim DeJong had his head shaved for charity. Tim’s quest to conquer diabetes has led him to put on this bi-annual event with funds raised going to ADF and JDRF equally.he Second Annual $50,000 haircut is Tim DeJong, president of DeJong's Insurance way of aiding the cause to find a cure for diabetes.

Pam Mckinley's Story

I have been diabetic now for 53 years. When I was diagnosed at age 4, my parents were told that I would only live for another ten or fifteen years, and that I would never be able to have children.

I now have two wonderful sons, ages 25 and 23. One of them is diabetic, so I now know what my mom and dad must have gone through with my diagnoses.

ADI - Clinical Research Unit

The Alberta Diabetes Institute is happy to announce that the Clinical Research Unit (CRU), in the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health and Research, will be fully operational by the end of this summer.

The new, 8000 square foot facility will encompass researchers from a variety of disciplines and incorporate studies focusing on diabetes, obesity, metabolism and nutrition.  Read More...


Flaman’s Gift Brings Fitness Lab One Step Closer

More people with diabetes will soon be working up a sweat, thanks to a recent commitment by the Flaman Group of Companies.

The Saskatchewan-based retailer has pledged $125,000 towards the cost of fitness equipment to furnish the Alberta Diabetes Institute’s Physical Activity and Diabetes Laboratory (PADL).  Read More...
