The $50,000 Haircut
On June 23, 2011 at 5.00pm, friends, colleagues, family, and guests gathered at Crush Restaurant & Bar in Calgary to watch as Tim DeJong had his head shaved for charity. Tim’s quest to conquer diabetes has led him to put on this bi-annual event with funds raised going to ADF and JDRF equally.
In front of a packed crowd, Tim invited guests to bid on each lock of hair to be cut, and then offered up each eyebrow to be shaved for $1,000 each, which was eagerly taken up. The successful outcome of all this hair cutting and head shaving has amounted to over $50,000 raised to date.
“I am delighted that everyone has supported this event in support of diabetes research,” said Tim, “and my father is equally delighted that I have finally got rid of my long hair!” Tim is keeping his $50,000 Haircut event open until August to receive more donations.
Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to, or dropped off at, DeJong's Insurance Services 202,1211-14th St. SW | Calgary | T3C 1C4
Please make cheques payable to ADF Diabetes Research. Cash donations will also be accepted. You can also contact Emily Kujat at ADF Calgary for more information at 403-228-1488 or emily@afdr.ab.ca.
Thank you for your support and thank you Tim for putting your hair on the line for diabetes!
