Event Planner Brings Elegant Touch To
“A Night to Remember”

Katherine Lomax plans and designs events for a living—through her company, Elegant Touches—but she loves letting her creative side run wild with the ADF’s annual “A Night to Remember” fundraisers. “The event has become known for its fun and interactive themes through the years,” Lomax explains.

“This year’s theme is A Night in Bollywood, so we’re going to really be able to cut loose, with lots of bright colours and vibrant entertainment. And, as usual, we’ll have the charming Danny Hooper as our host, and tons of fabulous auction items.”

Lomax first became involved with the event solely as a vendor, in 2002. After two years, though, she stepped forward to join the steering committee. “It just felt right to volunteer for the ADF,” she says. “I lost a very dear uncle to diabetes, and other family members have since been diagnosed.”

Lomax’s involvement has transformed the annual fundraiser, says ADF Executive Director Kathy Fitzgerald. “She’s really the creative genius behind the event,” Fitzgerald says. “She has helped turn A Night To Remember into one of the social highlights of the year, as well as a significant source of revenue.”

Lomax makes a point of sharing the credit with her committed and talented committee of volunteers, led this year by Ken and Denise Cantor. The group works together for months organizing the event—which makes the night itself all that much more satisfying.

“It’s so rewarding to walk into the room, and hear people’s reactions to the décor and ambiance we have created,” Lomax says. “More than that, though, it’s great to be part of an event that attracts so many Edmontonians to support the cause. Our city is very lucky to have the institute, and it’s up to us to help them find a cure!”
