World Diabetes Awareness Month
World Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated every year on November 14. The World Diabetes Day campaign is led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations. It engages millions of people worldwide in diabetes advocacy and awareness. World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat that diabetes now poses. The campaign draws attention to issues of paramount importance to the diabetes world and keeps diabetes firmly in the public spotlight.
World Diabetes Awareness Month Kick Off - November 1st
Alberta Diabetes Foundation is partnered with Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for Diabetes Awareness Month. We were joined by Mayor Stephen Mandel on November 1st, at City Hall at 9:45am. City Hall was transformed into an outburst of the color blue symbolizing diabetes awareness.
Operation "Blue Bridge" - November 1st
In partnership with the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation we are pleased to announce the lighting of the Langevin Bridge located on 4 st NE in Calgary, Alberta. the lighting of the bridge will commence on the eve of World Diabetes Day (November 14th) and run through until the morning of November 15th.
Wacky Hair Day - November 14th
Teasing, back-combing, gel sculpting and waves was all the talk for
schools in Leduc, Hinton and Red Deer this November as the participated
in the first annual “Wacky Hair” day as part of World Diabetes Day. On
November 14, 2011, students and staff from Crescent Valley School in
Hinton, East Elementary School in
Leduc and Westpark Middle School in
Red Deer turned up with beehives, spikes, curls and frizz to raise
valuable funds for Alberta Diabetes Foundation by wearing their Wacky
hairstyle and donating $2.00 per person to the charity.
